Graduating with an Honours Degree in Motion Picture Medium in 2004 with a list of nominated and award winning short films (screened in as far afield as Poland and The Cannes Film Festival), Darryl now has over 10 years diverse experience in writing and directing long form TV drama, Reality TV and Insert directing for MNET's two times SAFTA  award-winning “ALL ACCESS” for Mzansi Magic.

Right out of Film School, Darryl began work as co-creator, writer and director on "ONE WAY", a 22-episode half hour drama series for SABC 3, with an ensemble cast including Louis Saint-Claire, Emmanuel Castis and Leroy Gopal. This led to co-writing with Paul Slabolepszy on the award winning hospital drama "HILLSIDE" where he directed several episodes in season 4, directing actors like Dr. John Kani and Patrick Shai. Work followed as co-writer and director on the second season of the hit youth drama “TSHISA”.

Answering a brief for a drama series for MNET in 2010, Darryl created and wrote all 13 hour-long episodes of "INTO THE FIRE" (an action ensemble drama dealing with the problems facing fire-fighters and EMS in Johannesburg) along with mentor and collaborator Paul Slabolepszy. Darryl co-wrote 6 episodes of a pilot programme for SABC 3, developing a  Comedy Series called "SAFE AS HAUSERS". The 6 pilot episodes were broadcast in early 2013 - produced and directed by the multi-award winning director Bobby Heaney – and were nominated for “Best Comedy Series” at the 2013 SAFTAs.

JUST WRAPPED: After 2 years in the writers room (under head-writer Justin Strydom)  "ROER JOU VOETE", a 26 hour-long episode drama series (starring Grethe Fox, Ilse Klink and David James) is now "in the can".

While he helmed six episodes as director, Darryl worked on all the other episodes, co-directing with Josh Rous and Jozua Malherbe. Roer Jou Voete is broadcast on SABC 3 at 8pm, every Wednesday evening.
